PLAYWRIGHTS
Ojai Playwrights Conference seeks playwrights who care and dare to engage the great social, political and cultural issues of our time. We welcome challenging work that reflects the ethnic, cultural and ideological diversity of the country. View list of all OPC plays and playwrights
If you’re a playwright interested in submitting a play for future seasons, please review our Submission Process guidelines.
Directors & Dramaturges
The Ojai Playwrights Conference seeks seasoned, experienced professional directors and dramaturges in new play development to work on the selected plays each season. These positions are generally filled in late spring/early summer for the annual Conference/New Works Festival that takes place in August.
Actors
Casting for the annual OPC New Works Festival is done in July in collaboration with the playwrights and directors. We generally cast professional actors from the Southern California acting community, the Ojai community and past company members. There are no formal auditions.
Interns
OPC Interns are college students from across the country. While most are theater students focusing on playwriting, directing, or acting, all areas of interest/study are considered. Interns are fully immersed into the OPC artistic community, and act as literary or directing assistants for the new play workshops. Interns also participate in a writing workshop with OPC playwrights and dramaturges, write and perform an original solo piece as part of the New Works Festival, and assist OPC staff with overall operations and logistics.
Applications for the 2024 summer internship have now closed. Please check back for information about future opportunities. For more information contact OPC Staff at [email protected].

We’re seeking support from Ojai Valley residents and businesses in a variety of ways, including:
Private housing for playwrights, guest artists and staff during the Summer Conference and New Works Festival (August)
Hosted meals at private homes for playwrights and artistic teams during Conference week.
Hosted receptions during Festival week.
Discounted / donated hotel rooms for out of town attendees and guest artists.
